My social commentary Project revolved around the idea of an eating disorder or someone not liking their body the way it is. I chose this because I thought it was a powerful statement and I could relate myself to the subject matter. I was really interested in working with Inc. wash this time because I like black and white, and I did so by first using a picture to trace. The English was very easy to work with, though by the end of my project was something missing. After getting some guidance from my teachers, they pushed me to get angry with my project and allowed some emotions or feelings on it and ended up loosely tearing it up with a quill and ink to almost to destruct it in a good way. This was my favorite project I had done so far and it was really helpful for me to allow myself to put more of my emotions was in my art piece.

While planning for my metamorphosis, I had to plan how I would go about transforming a monarch butterfly's profile, into a ballet dancer in a back attitude position. I started with wanting to do something very clean and basic. My first step was to cut my paper and print out a picture of the dancer and the butterfly. I had traced them along the watercolor paper, cutting away the pieces to go from the butterfly to the dancer. Once traced, my initial plan was to do a watercolor background. Though I faced an obstacle when I added black to the background to go along with the monarch colors. I ended up not liking the black and used gesso to cover it, though that didn't work out, I switched to acrylic paint. It turned out well in the end and added some clean black sharpie marks/lines to the insides of the formations, to give some shape and almost to infer some lines and/or movement so it wasn't so bland.
Done by polish artist Pawel Kuczynski is famous for satirical illustration. I portray this piece as describing how we could be locked in a plain/boring room and we all seek to find out with is going on through the world (like looking on facebook). Even though there is an opening in the door, we still look for social approval and information from the media. this is a pretty bold statement and it was done very subtle, with a great message.
Though I really wish I had known who created this artwork, it speaks volumes of what priorities we all have nowadays. Most everyone understands that the nice and high end brands we have are because of child slaves in 3rd and 4th world countries. whoever made this piece really did it for people to open their eyes and see that by buying these items, we encourage the use of children and many others to work for no money, not to mention with horrible conditions. For myself, I do believe this is a large social issue that gets overlooked because we are selfish. the artists that made this did a fantastic job of describing that.
This metamorphosis oil painting was done by Vladimir Kush, of a hot air balloon . This one caught my eye because it really just makes me think of the children's movie "Up" and made me happy to look at. Also, i am highly impressed with the fact that it is an oil painting and I have not ever used oils. Its shows a tasteful amount of metamorphosis without making it too obvious, and I really enjoy that.
Metamorphosis happenes to be very intimidating. Though it creates works of art that show a likeness, as everything combines to make one piece. Octavio Ocampo made a great example of this in his painting "To Run with the Herd." I just really enjoy this piece of art because it its just so unique to look at and done so precisely.
My inspiration for this project was quite obviously Marilyn Manson's watercolor paintings, though mine is more structured. While deciding how I wanted to create this I took my biggest insecurity, being my face profile, I used that as my pose. Starting off this Selfie I used a projector to project my photo onto my watercolor paper to trace the details of my face, to get an accurate drawing and to save a little time. Then I continued on with my watercolors. My biggest struggle was overcoming the color. I had put way too much on and it wasn't looking how effortlessly I wanted. I problem solved by collaboratively working with my group table. And I am very happy with how this turned out.
Another very great artist I came across was Henri Matisse. This piece of artwork is his self portrait called "Stripped T-Shirt". The use of unusual color and the large brush really makes it different. It looks to have been done in acrylic paint all over. This portrait shows intent, without trying too hard.
Frida Kahlo is an artist I find very interesting. Her self portrait painting "Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird" is probably my favorite piece. Kahlo's work intrigues me because of her expressionism. I see this particular piece having so much more of a deeper meaning, as if she is calm but patiently enduring the pain of the thorn necklace. I really love the symbolism this painting gives.
